TORONTO, December 17, 2004 - CHEMiCALC for Palm® OS Integrated with ACD/ChemPalm Software
The popular CHEMiCALC for Palm OS calculator, under a licensing agreement by ACD/Labs since July 2003, has been integrated into the ACD/ChemPalm application for Palm OS-based PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants). Provided with the commercial versions of ACD/ChemSketch and ACD/ChemFolder, ChemPalm allows users to view chemical structures, as well as browse and search chemical databases containing structures and accompanying analytical information from a handheld device. Now, with the integrated CHEMiCALC application, mobile chemists and students will gain the ability to write and balance equations, graph periodic trends, and perform stoichiometric calculations on structures contained on their PDAs.
Developers of ACD/Labs PDA software are pleased to be able to provide chemists and students with the combined time-saving and error-reducing benefits of these two outstanding packages. Learn more about CHEMiCALC here...

TORONTO, November 10, 2004 - New from ACD/Labs - Include TLC Plates in Your ChemSketch Reports
ACD/TLC Plate Tool allows you to recreate TLC plates in our popular structure drawing tool, ACD/ChemSketch. The TLC Plate Tool is an ACD/ChemBasic application that runs within ChemSketch 5.0 or later. The application generates an image that replicates the results on your actual TLC plate. Printing or including this image in ChemSketch reports is much simpler and less messy than drawing or pasting the actual plate in your lab book. Read more about how to install and operate the TLC Plate Tool. TLC plates with integrated chemical structures can also be added to a database with our ACD/ChemFolder software.
TORONTO, October 29, 2004 - Congratulations to ACD/Labs' Web Site Survey Contest Winners
Following the contest draw, which took place on Sept. 1, 2004, ACD/Labs is pleased to announce the winners of our web site survey contest. Richard Whitehouse from Australia was randomly selected as the winner of a PDA with ACD/ChemFolder, our chemical structure databasing software that allows users to create, transfer to PDA, and search databases of chemical structures with associated data. ChemFolder includes the ACD/ChemPocket application which enables viewing of chemical structures on your new Pocket PC.
After reviewing the survey results, we noted that many helpful comments were submitted by web site visitors. From these people, Markus Wagener of Organon, The Netherlands, was randomly selected as the winner of another PDA with ChemFolder. We congratulate both winners and thank all of the participants for completing the survey. All of the comments and feedback that we received is appreciated, and being used to plan future updates of the web site. We hope you continue to enjoy our improved web site design.
TORONTO, October 6, 2004 - ACD/Labs Helps the U.S. Team Prepare for Their Silver Medal Performance at the 36th International Chemistry Olympiad
Advanced Chemistry Development, Inc., (ACD/Labs) congratulates the U.S. Chemistry Olympiad Team on their outstanding achievements at the 36th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) held on July 18-27, 2004, in Kiel, Germany. The team comprised of (from left to right) Eric Brown (Chattanooga, TN), Fan Zhang (Montvale, NJ), Emily Tsui (Potomac, MD), and John L. Kiappes (Houston, TX), returned home with four silver medals for their performance among the 234 students competing from 61 nations at this year's Olympiad. These four students were selected from the almost 10,000 students who participated in the 2004 U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO), and from the top twenty students who participated in the intensive two-week USNCO study camp at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado. ACD/Labs supported the study camp with a donation of ACD/ChemSketch software, clocks, and other useful goodies.
TORONTO, September 20, 2004 - ACD/Labs Supports the Integration of INChI (Beta Version 1.1) into ACD/ChemSketch
In support of the IUPAC-NIST Chemical Identifier (INChI) Project led by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), ACD/Labs has facilitated the integration of INChI software into their own chemical structure drawing program, ACD/ChemSketch. The INChI software is capable of producing unique alphanumeric string representations for chemical compounds that will facilitate the communication of molecular structures electronically. ACD/ChemSketch can be used as the structure input interface for INChI, through which drawn structures can be processed into INChI labels using an interactive button. Interested parties can download a technical note instructing them how to install and integrate the freely-available INChI (Beta Version 1.1) into ACD/ChemSketch from http://www.acdlabs.com/download/technotes/80/draw_db/inchi.pdf.

Every few months we celebrate another 50,000 downloads of our ACD/ChemSketch freeware. There is no doubt that the package is enabling chemists worldwide to use computers to their full effect for producing publication quality chemical structures for reports and publications. A recent chemistry feature article by David Bradley includes interviews with chemists from around the world who have chosen ACD/ChemSketch as their drawing package of choice. Now we have the opportunity to celebrate 350,000 downloads! Read more...
TORONTO, July 15, 2004 - ACD/Labs Offers Competitive Upgrades for Thermo GRAMS Customers
Recently it was announced that Thermo Electron will be closing their Salem, NH, office and discontinuing their eRecordManager product line. The Salem office was the original site for the development and support of the GRAMS product line. The GRAMS team has made a number of significant contributions to the industry over the past two decades. The delivery of a genericizing file format, the SPC file format, and processing tools for infrared spectroscopy are some of their most significant innovations. Thermo have commented that “the GRAMS suite of products will remain unaffected by the decision” ( http://www.limsource.com/whatnew/indnews/newnow.html#Thermo6). However, over the past 4 years ACD/Labs has developed a processing and databasing system, ACD/UV-IR Manager, which supports IR, UV-Vis, and Raman processing and databasing, and supports the Galactic SPC format. Our hope is that Thermo customers will review the capabilities of ACD/UV-IR Manager relative to GRAMS. ACD/Labs is happy to negotiate competitive upgrades until October 31, 2004 for any Thermo GRAMS users who wish to convert their data to the ACD/SpecManager platform which also enables chemical structure integration. For details, please contact your ACD/Labs account manager or sales@acdlabs.com.
