Chemistry and related departments can win up to $5000 in ACD/Labs chemistry software for their school or research project.

Toronto, Canada (January 13, 2010)—Chemistry software developer Advanced Chemistry Development, Inc., (ACD/Labs) invites educators around the world to submit entries detailing the creative ways they have used ACD/Labs software to further their students' education of chemistry. The deadline for submission is May 31, 2010.

Over 400 academic institutions world-wide use ACD/Labs software for chemical drawing, nomenclature, NMR processing and prediction, mass fragmentation prediction, chromatography simulation, molecular property prediction, and more. These tools enhance the learning experience whether by creating virtual laboratory experiments with simulations, introducing skills that will be used in the real world, or otherwise engaging students in a unique and novel way. In addition, software provides a means of teaching analytical concepts where laboratory time and resources are in short supply.

In order to recognize those educators who offer virtual laboratory teaching, ACD/Labs has initiated the Virtual Laboratory Challenge. The winner, as determined by a combination of scoring by a panel of judges, and feedback from students who participated in the teaching exercise, will be entitled to receive $5000 in ACD/Labs software for their department or academic research endeavor. The runner-up is entitled to $2500 in ACD/Labs Software.

More information, and entry forms, can be obtained from the ACD/Labs website, http://www.acdlabs.com/vlc/.
